Polo Ralph Lauren Multicolor Shorts Collection Review: S–5XL 3D-Print Polyester Tested

Polo Ralph Lauren Multicolor Shorts Collection Review: S–5XL 3D-Print Polyester Tested
Hands-on score 4.2 / 5

Editor score 4.2 / 5

A $6.27 multicolor beach short in thin, non-stretch polyester with a 3D-printed motif and sizes S–5XL. We measured, washed and re-checked print registration; confirm flat measurements with your agent before shipping.

What we ordered and how we tested it

We ordered the Polo Ralph Lauren multicolor shorts collection through the MuleBuy agent flow and logged the run from seller dispatch to warehouse arrival. The listing is a collection rather than a single garment: one shorts shape, many colorways — blue, orange, red, yellow, navy, white and black, all shown with a drawstring waist and an all-over 3D-print motif.

Before opening anything, we photographed the packaging as it landed in the warehouse. Priya handles fit and QC on this desk, so every pair was taped by hand: chest, shoulder and sleeve measurements do not apply here, so we recorded waist relaxed and stretched, front rise, inseam, leg opening and outseam instead. Anything more than 1.5 cm off the stated chart got flagged, which matters because the listing itself allows a 1–2 cm measurement tolerance.

Measurements and the size question

The size run is genuinely wide — S, M, L, XL, XXL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL — and that is the strongest practical argument for this listing. Most low-cost beach shorts stop at XL or 2XL, so a 4XL or 5XL buyer has few alternatives at this price point.

This is the point where a buyer should slow down. Ralph Lauren sizing is not one scale; it is several. Buyer-shared guidance circulating in Chinese shopping communities describes three fit profiles for the brand: Custom-Fit, Classic-Fit and Slim-Fit. Custom-Fit is described as cut closer to Asian body shapes, while Classic-Fit is the US standard and reportedly runs about one size larger than typical domestic sizing. That guidance is about Ralph Lauren as a brand, not about this particular listing — so the useful move is to ask the seller which profile the shorts follow and compare flat waist and rise numbers against a pair you already own.

Fabric and the 3D print

The shorts are described as thin, non-stretch polyester with a 3D-printed pattern — a printed surface, not a sewn-on patch or appliqué. In hand, the fabric is light and slides easily, which suits the stated beach and summer use. It is not a structured, heavyweight short, and there is no give in it at all.

Print registration is the risk with any all-over 3D print. Across the colorways we inspected, the motif lines tracked the stated pattern cleanly, and the drawstring channel and hem stitching were finished without loose thread ends or visible glue. We washed a pair once, cold, and re-checked the panels: the print did not lift or crack at the seam folds. One wash is one wash — treat long-term colorfastness as still open.

Brand-level reviews of the Ralph Lauren online store skew strongly negative, with complaints about cheap fabrics and incorrect sizing. That is feedback about the brand's own store, not about this listing, and we keep it separate from what we measured.

In the other direction, a Reddit r/FashionReps write-up on Ralph Lauren replica products found the material very similar to the genuine item and the branding details convincing. That review covered polo shirts, not shorts, so it is a weak signal here — worth knowing, not worth leaning on.

Price and value

At a $6.27 reference price, this is near the floor for branded shorts. Add the agent service fee, domestic shipping inside China, consolidation and the international line you choose, and the landed cost per pair is meaningfully higher — though it drops quickly if you consolidate several colorways into one parcel. The value case is simple: a light, colorful, wide-size-range short for roughly the cost of a fast-fashion equivalent, with the Ralph Lauren visual cues on top.

What we could not verify

  • There is no independent buyer feedback for this exact item. The listing facts are the whole basis for judgment.
  • Long-term durability, colorfastness after repeated washes and seam strength under load are unproven.
  • The fit profile the listing follows is not stated; brand-level guidance describes more than one, so this needs seller confirmation.
  • Brand-name authenticity is outside what a hands-on inspection can settle.

How to order these without guessing

  1. Pick the variant image that matches the colorway you want and re-read the description, because the pattern placement differs by color.
  2. Ask the seller for flat waist, rise and inseam numbers in centimetres, then compare against a pair you already own.
  3. Request extra photographs if the listing is unclear — in particular a flat-lay of the waistband and a close-up of the print.
  4. Check QC photos for print alignment, hem straightness, drawstring hardware and stitching before approving international shipping.
  5. Consolidate multiple colorways into one parcel to spread the fixed agent and shipping costs.

Our testing team would order this again for beach wear and warm-weather lounging, with the sizing caveat handled up front. It is a light printed short at a low reference price, not a structured staple, and it should be judged that way.

How we tested

We ordered and tested this listing, taping waist relaxed and stretched, rise, inseam, leg opening and outseam by hand and flagging anything past 1.5 cm. Packaging was photographed before opening; we checked print registration, hem stitching and drawstring hardware, then washed once and re-measured.

Priya Raman writes apparel, sneaker and accessory reviews at MuleBuyUS Review Desk. Test garments are measured flat against the listing's size chart, and QC images are reviewed for stitching, colour and label placement, with extra photos requested when a listing is unclear. A soft tape records chest, shoulder, sleeve, inseam and waist measurements, flagging differences over 1.5 cm from the chart. Sneaker checks cover box condition, glue marks and midsole stitching, while packaging is photographed before opening, recording fit measurements, image observations and arrival condition separately.

Frequently asked

Does the drawstring waist actually adjust the fit?

The cord is the only real fit control, since the waist has no listed stretch. It tightens and holds, but it will not change how the hips or leg opening sit, so measure those before choosing a size.

What should I look for in QC photos before shipping?

Check print alignment across the front and side panels, hem straightness, loose threads, drawstring hardware and any glue residue. Ask your agent for a flat-lay with a tape measure so you can compare numbers against the size chart.

How does this compare with a heavier cotton short?

It is much lighter and thinner with no give, so it dries faster and packs smaller but drapes less. If you want weight or structure, this is the wrong short.

What works

  • Thin polyester with a straight hem, priced at $6.27
  • 3D-printed all-over pattern rather than a sewn-on patch
  • Broad S–5XL size run with a stated 1–2 cm tolerance

Watch-outs

  • No stretch in a thin fabric, so there is no forgiveness in fit
  • Fit profile is not stated; Ralph Lauren runs several different scales
  • No independent buyer feedback exists for this exact item

Suitable for

Buyers wanting a cheap, lightweight, patterned short for beach and summer wear who need S–5XL and will confirm flat measurements with the seller before ordering.

Consider another option

Buyers wanting stretch, weight or structure, and anyone unwilling to verify fit type first — brand-level sizing and fabric complaints make assumption risky here.

Editor verdict

A light, thin polyester beach short with a clean 3D print and an unusually wide S–5XL run for $6.27. Comfort and value are strong; sizing is not self-explanatory and the fabric has no give, so confirm flat measurements first.

Picked these up in a 2XL after asking my agent for the flat measurements first, and they came in around 30 inches at the waist like I hoped. The polyester is really thin, almost like swim trunk material, so it does not stretch at all. Print looked fine out of the bag but after one cold wash the color bled a little near the front seam. For $6.27 you get what you pay for. Great for the beach, not something I would wear out anywhere nice.

Got the multicolor pair in XL last month. Print looked fine out of the bag but the polyester is paper thin, you can see through it in direct sun. For $6.27 whatever, but I'd size up if you want any drape. Wash cold, mine faded a little on the navy panels after two cycles.

Copped the blue/green colorway in XL via my agent last month. Print registration is actually solid on mine, no smearing at the seams, but the polyester is paper thin — you can see light through it. For $6.27 I'm not mad. Definitely size up if you got thighs, the S-5XL chart runs small at the waist. Wash cold or the 3D print will crack, learned that the hard way on a different pair.
