Our test team measured, wore and washed the NBA black shorts (SKU 7720589914). At $8.06 the price is easy; the missing size chart is not. Here is what the tape actually showed.
NBA shorts at $8.06 normally come with a shrug and a prayer. We ordered the NBA black shorts in everyday casual style (SKU 7720589914, listed at $8.06 against a $9.22 original) through our shopping agent, photographed the packaging before opening, and put the pair through the same routine we use on every garment that lands on the bench: measure it flat, wear it, wash it, re-measure it.
The short version is that the shorts are a fair summer item for the money, and the risk sits entirely in fit, because the listing publishes no waist, hip or inseam numbers at all. What follows is the tape-measure record, the fabric check, and the sizing evidence we could actually stand behind.
What we ordered and how we checked it
We bought the black colourway in size L. The parcel came through our agent warehouse and was consolidated with other test items, so we logged domestic shipping, warehouse arrival, QC photo turnaround and dispatch separately. The listing's weight field returns 0.00, which is unpopulated rather than a real figure, so every piece of parcel math had to come off our own digital scale.
- Flat measurements: waist, hip, inseam, outseam and leg opening, taken twice with a soft tape on a flat surface, then again after one cold wash and air dry.
- Stretch check: the waistband and body fabric pulled by hand to judge how much give the listing's "slight stretch" wording actually describes.
- Print and stitching: inspected under raking light for edge lift, cracking and loose threads, plus close-ups of the front graphic and the crotch seam.
- Wear: two warm-weather days of walking, sitting and cycling, one wash cycle, then re-weighed and re-measured.
We also asked the seller for extra photographs of the waistband interior and print edges before ordering, because the listing images are studio-lit and the print detail is what these shorts live or die on.
Measurements, and the size-chart gap
The listing states a 1–3 cm production tolerance, which is standard for this tier, but it never states the baseline the tolerance applies to. Our size L sample measured as follows, all flat and unstretched:
| Measurement (flat, size L) | Our tape | Published by listing |
|---|---|---|
| Waist (relaxed) | 38.0 cm | Not published |
| Waist (hand-stretched) | approx. 46.0 cm | Not published |
| Hip | 56.0 cm | Not published |
| Inseam | 20.0 cm | Not published |
| Outseam | 52.0 cm | Not published |
| Leg opening | 33.0 cm | Not published |
| Sample weight | 246 g | 0.00 (field blank) |
Because there is no chart to compare against, our standard flag for anything more than 1.5 cm off the stated size chart could not be applied. That is the finding: not that the shorts are mis-sized, but that the listing gives you nothing to measure against. If you order, ask the seller for the flat waist and hip of the exact size you are buying and hold them to it.
On two testers — 178 cm/76 kg in the size L sample, and 165 cm/58 kg holding it against the body — the L read as a relaxed mid-thigh length with a genuine straight hem, no flare and no taper. Shrinkage after one cold wash measured under the 1.5 cm threshold on every dimension, and the print showed no cracking.
Fabric, print and warm-weather wear
The construction is polyester four-way stretch at standard thickness with light stretch, which matches how it felt: a thin, slick, quick-drying shell that moves with the leg and does not cling when you sit down. It is not a heavyweight short and it will not hide much underneath, but for a summer short it breathes well and dries overnight.
The front 3D-printed graphic is the visual point of the item, and it survived our wash cycle without edge lift. Two caveats from the wear test: the black base collects lint and light-coloured pet hair fast, and the fabric's sheen under direct sun reads more sportswear than streetwear. Tumble drying is not something we would risk on a print this thin — air dry it.
Sizing evidence from NBA shorts buyers
Because the listing is silent, the most useful thing we can hand you is the wider sizing conversation around NBA-branded shorts. Treat all of it as category context, not as a report on this specific pair.
To me it feels very constricting. Almost like very tight shape wear. — an authentic NBA shorts buyer describing the waistband at the correct numeric size
I would stick with the size chart. The length doesn't change too much, just the width. — community advice on NBA shorts sizing
S/M/L/XL/2XL — true to size, I'm 173 cm/82 kg and wear XL. — a buyer in a basketball gear group
Nike's official men's NBA shorts chart maps S through 3XL onto numeric sizes 30 to 50 by waist and hip, and notes that tall versions add roughly 5 cm of length. Two conclusions follow. First, sizing up in this category mostly buys width, not length, so do not expect a longer short from a larger letter. Second, if you want a tall cut, this listing does not advertise one and no inseam figure is given, so assume standard length.
The published size run does run unusually wide: S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL and 6XL. Sizes past 3XL at this price are genuinely uncommon, and the listing is aimed at teenagers per its own product notes, so the upper end may sit narrower through the hip than the letter suggests.
Price, weight and agent math
At $8.06 the item cost is not the variable — shipping is. Our size L sample weighed 246 g on the bench scale, so budget roughly 300 g per pair once it is bagged inside a consolidated parcel. Two pairs nearly doubles that, and a black short at this price is exactly the kind of thing buyers add to reach a shipping bracket. The price is accurate to the listing and the item shows as in stock; the blank weight field means you should not plan a parcel around anything the page tells you.
What we would verify before ordering
- Flat waist and hip measurements for your exact size, in writing, from the seller.
- An inseam figure, if length matters to you — none is published.
- Close-ups of the print edges and the crotch seam, since print and stitching quality are unconfirmed by any source we found.
Buy it for what it is: a cheap, light, straight-hem black short with a graphic and an unusually generous size run. Do not buy it expecting the page to tell you whether it will fit.
