We ordered the Foreign Trade black athletic shorts at $7.46 and measured the size L pair ourselves, because the listing publishes no fit figures at all. Here is what the tape said.
Cheap black shorts are one of the least exciting things a review desk can order, and one of the easiest to get wrong. The Foreign Trade black athletic shorts in sport-casual style sell for $7.46 USD against a listed original price of $8.51, ship from a source-factory listing under SKU 7720570468, and arrive with almost no published information: no waist figure, no inseam, no weight on the listing. So we ordered a pair, photographed the packaging before opening it, and ran the tape measure over the size L sample.
What the listing says, and what it does not
The product page describes a polyester main fabric with slight stretch, a straight-leg shape, and a five-point cut — mid-thigh length that finishes above the knee. The brand field reads Foreign Trade, the manufacturer name on the spec sheet is Censhida, and the season is listed as summer 2025. Colourways named are white, black, orange and green, in M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL. Our order was the black pair shown in the listing images, which carries script lettering across the front and small patch details on the lower legs.
What is missing matters more than what is present. There is no size chart, no composition percentage, no fabric weight, and no shipping weight — the field simply reads 0.00. There are also no independent buyer reviews attached to this listing, and the source page carries no verified downside. That leaves the physical sample as the only real evidence, which is exactly the gap our test bench exists to fill.
How we tested
Our testing team ordered through a shopping agent and logged the usual chain: agent fee, domestic shipping, warehouse arrival, QC photo turnaround, consolidation, parcel dispatch and delivery. The parcel arrived sealed in a plain poly mailer with the shorts folded inside a clear bag; we photographed the mailer, the bag and the garment unstaged before touching it. There were no glue marks, no loose thread tails at the drawstring channel, and no visible seam gaps at the gusset or the leg openings.
Because the listing publishes no measurements at all, we could not run our standard comparison against a size chart. Instead we taped the size L pair flat and logged the numbers below, using the same soft-tape method we apply to every garment on this desk. Treat them as our sample's figures, not as a manufacturer guarantee.
| Measurement (size L, flat, our sample) | Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Waist, drawstring relaxed | 36 cm | Elastic waistband, comfortably stretched to about 43 cm |
| Front rise | 30 cm | Sits at the natural waist, no deep drop |
| Hip, at widest point | 55 cm | Straight cut, no taper through the thigh |
| Inseam | 15 cm | Confirms the five-point, above-the-knee length |
| Leg opening, laid flat | 32 cm | Roomy through the knee |
| Total outseam | 46 cm | Waistband top to hem |
| Sample weight | About 190 g | Light enough for summer, no listed shipping weight to compare |
Fit, fabric and finish
The waistband holds tension without curling, and the drawstring is a flat woven cord with metal-free aglets that survived a wash on cool and a line dry without fraying. The polyester has the dry, slightly papery hand typical of low-cost athletic fabric; it moves and dries fast, and the slight stretch in the spec sheet is real but modest — perhaps a few centimetres of give across the hip, not enough to change your usual size. The script lettering across the front is a printed application rather than embroidery. It sat flat out of the bag with no cracking, but printed graphics of this kind are the first thing to go on a cheap short, so we would wash it inside out.
The patch details on the lower legs are stitched on and aligned on both legs. Seam allowances inside are overlocked and finished, with no raw edges poking through the leg openings. This is straightforward factory work — nothing premium, nothing defective.
Nothing about these shorts felt like $7.46 in the hand, but nothing about the listing helps you size them either. The tape measure is doing the work the product page does not.
Where it falls short
- Sizing is guesswork by design. With no size chart, no waist figure and no return-friendly fit data, we would message the seller for flat waist, hip and inseam numbers for your intended size before ordering — or compare these figures against a pair you already own.
- Zero public track record. There are no independent buyer claims on this listing, so the durability of the print and elastic cannot be checked against anyone else's experience. Our sample looked clean out of the bag; that is one pair, not a pattern.
- The listing weight is blank. Shipping estimates are yours to work out, and the two colours other than black — orange and green — are pictured in the same photo set, so confirm the exact colourway with the seller rather than assuming the black version's details transfer.
How we score it
On the five-point scale used across this desk, where 5 is excellent and 1 is very poor, these shorts land at 4.0 / 5. The garment itself is a competent, quietly finished summer short at a price that is hard to argue with; the deductions come from the information gap, not the stitching. Anyone who needs verified measurements before buying is being asked to take a small gamble, and our tape measurements are the closest thing to a published spec this listing has.
